Are you looking to change yourself, the branding of your company or the image of your mascot. Change is something that we are always looking for in our society, whether it be getting a haircut, new clothes or for the more extreme, plastic surgery. Why, do we do this? It's all about making ourselves look better and standing out, but how much should we change and how much is acceptable for us to change before we aren't recognised anymore?

MacDonald's is Changing

Let's take Ronald MacDonald for example, he is back and looking better than ever. The person who has been the iconic image of MacDonald's has a new costume and slimmed down a bit on the waistline. That's all MacDonalds has done to him to revamp his image whilst keeping that red hair, red nose, massive red smile and last but not least the giant red shoes matched with his yellow clothes. Comparing the before and after images above, his clothing wardrobe actually look the same but instead of the classic one-piece , its now split with pants, a stripped polo top and a vest on top.

This image revamp is his stage for a comeback to represent magic and happiness to push the new slogan "Fun makes great things happen." The designers themselves must have plenty of ideas to make him more fun and attractive for children when they visit a MacDonalds restaurant but have pretty much kept him the same. This leads back to a principle that everyone may have heard of before K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid). Ronald MacDonald being so famous and well known, any major changes would take too much time for people to adapt to the changes and could cause dislike from people of all ages that know this iconic character.

Standing Out on Special Days

Designers just can't sit still though, so with special charity days and special events that MacDonalds hold every year, they have given Ronald a special signed jacket and bowtie. Something very simple, can be removed and reattached but at the same eye catching. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on your local MacDonald's restaurant and see if you really notice the differences and whether or not more people are attracted by this change. In the end, any changes you want to make, make sure you keep it simple!
