Unique Promotional Packaging
So much of the time, packaging design and branding is an intense saturation of words and labels with the express purpose of driving the brand recognition into consumers brains. But sometimes, immense impact can be made with what is not said...
Customised Paint Tubes
Japanese design duo Ima Moteki has sought to revolutionise the way children learn about colours with some ingenious packaging design. Their 'Nameless Paints' range is comprised of minimalistic white tubes of paint labelled with an "equation" of primary colours, so the colour is not identified by a word, but what it is: a colour.
By avoiding assigning predetermined names to the colours, the design team intended to "expand the definition of what a colour can be, and the various shades they [children] can create by mixing them".
Interesting Custom Merchandise
We're fascinated by this design principle. We believe that unlabelled paints would pair excellently with custom colouring paint sheets or a custom art journal with blank pages where childrens' imaginations can really run wild!
But why stop with nameless paints? Why not make an impression with all manner of customised pens and stationary? Customised coloured pencil packs with a fresh design that doesn't dictate colour names would also make great promotional giveaways for children
When you don't affix a name to a colour, you are removing preconceptions and encouraging children to intuitively understand colour. The best kind of promotional merchandise is educational and thought provoking.
