I think we can all agree that a trip to the cinema, a night in at home, or visiting a fair or expo becomes even more enjoyable once popcorn is added to the mix. There's something absolutely irresistible about these tasty treats, which is why customised promotional popcorn is such a popular product in our range. But have you ever wondered where popcorn comes from? The history of this humble treat is actually more interesting than you might think!

Popcorn Treats are Old School

Although we like to think of popcorn as a modern day snack, the native population of Mexico is known to have chowed down on the treats as far back as the year 3600BC! Obviously they couldn't watch a flick at the same time, but the taste itself is timeless.

Popcorn at The Movies

During the Great Depression, when the cost of basic necessities skyrocketed, the price of producing popcorn didn't increase considerably. This meant popcorn sellers could charge a very reasonable 5 or 10 cents per bag. The snack became very popular with those struggling financially and soon this bridged into the film going population, who found the combination of edibility and price too good to resist. But can you believe cinemas once fought to stop people from bringing popcorn in? It's true! Theatre owners thought eating snacks distracted from the film on show -- hah, we sure proved them wrong on that.

Popped Corn Flavour Varieties

While we're generally used to basic salted popcorn, nowadays a huge variety of popcorn flavours are available as promotional treats or sit-down snacks. Here at Cubic Promote, for example, we have delicious buttered popcorn as well as irresistible caramel popcorn available for marketing events. But other flavours out there include the more outrageous such as: cheese & bacon, gin & tonic, and even glow-in-the-dark (that has a strange green glow). It looks like we're not done reinventing the humble kernel of popped corn yet!
