Most large companies (and many smaller businesses) will have some sort of policy regarding receiving or sending gifts to individuals and companies outside of their own organisation. This is to protect the brand name, team unit, or the individual for both the receiver and the sender. When you are purchasing corporate gifts at the end of the year for another business, please ensure that the receiver is in a position to actually accept your gift. This is especially the case with gifts that are higher in value. Gifts that are too luxurious may be at best, elicit jealous looks from the colleagues of your recipient, or worse still may constitute bribery or corruption.
When in doubt, a polite email or phone call before you send the gift asking if the recipient is in a position to accept the gift would be prudent to save embarrassment.
At Christmas, being such a merry time of year, it is very easy and common for many to get a little bit carried away. There is always so much to do, and so many options for things to choose from. The same applies for end of year gifts. Always remember to choose gifts that are appropriate to the receiver. Granted that appropriate gifts may be considered a little boring, it is still preferable to gifts that are considered risky as you would not want to put your brands reputation at risk.
Choose gifts that are on the safe side, and always consider how the recipient may react to the gift. Also consider the context of the item if you were to gift it to save yourself embarrassment. There are always high profile companies that end up in the media (or spread through social media) where inappropriate gifts have been either ridiculed or worse still offended. When in doubt ask our friendly team for some advice.
The easiest way to send a gift that you know will be well received and that no one is left out is to have the type of gift be one that can be shared. A gift like a corporate chocolate box or a team award trophy is a great idea. Shared gifts makes it easy so when there are new team members in the business that you are gifting to, or if there are any behind the scenes personnel that you were not aware of, who then still receive the benefits of your present.
