It's that time of year again, where everyone is enjoying seasonal cheer and perhaps a heatwave or two (if you're in Australia, like us). There's also a massive range of Christmas products now on shelves, some of which are subject to the same design fails we've seen in corporate designs and some promotional products in the past. So strap yourselves in for some funny design mishaps that can only really happen in December.

7) Printed Xmas Bauble Fail

The above is a great example of what happens if you don't get experienced printers to handle your custom decoration production. Although the design itself is OK, it's been printed upside down! Not exactly the best kind of decoration to have on your tree.

6) Christmas Banner That Makes No Sense

We've tried to read the above promotional banner several times, and we still can't make head nor tail of what it's trying to say except "Christmas" and "campaign" ... maybe? This one needed a few more revisions before production!

5) Bells Shaped Like Bells

It's great to know these bells are shaped like bells, unlike those bells that are shaped like... not-bells out there!

4) Printed Ribbon Decoration Fail

Spelling is one of those basic things that you need to get right in the design stage because once a spelling error is out there your item won't be recognised for anything but this error. In the case of these festive printed ribbon decorations, it's tough to have a merry Christmas when you spell merry as "MRREY"!

hilarious christmas design fail mug

3) Festive Promotional Mug Fail

While the motive behind this custom cup is fairly innocent (a snowy mug with red for the holiday season) the resulting product looks more like a crime scene than a snowy scene of wonder. Sometimes you need to double check designs to ensure they work in practice, rather than just in theory.

2) Promotional Wrapping Paper Mix Up

This could have been a cute design with Santa, but it looks like his famous "ho ho ho" saying has been printed backwards leading to... "oh oh oh." Definitely not festive in the same way, we don't think.

hilarious christmas design fail mugs

1) Custom Cup Printing Fail

And finally, this is a case of asking for something and getting well, what you asked for but not in the correct way. The advertised mug is a magic colour change mug that shows one design which magically reveals another design once hot liquid is added. If the mug were produced as requested, the night time Christmas design would fade to reveal Santa on his sleigh once a drink was added. Unfortunately, the production team took the request literally and instead printed a picture of the requested design change, rather than the two designs themselves. Ouch! Super awkward!
