New Promotional Fragrance for Xbox?

There are sneaky ways to advertise a product (in this case a personalised bottle of perfume) through promotional products. This effort by my favourite games console Xbox is one example. This particular piece of marketing happened a few years ago, but to me it is still very interesting.

Advertising Ban

A few years ago, a new video game called "Destiny," was launched. It was a game that was both available on the Sony Playstation, as well as the Microsoft Xbox. One of the details with the launch of the game, was that Xbox is never to advertise the game. So what did Xbox do? Xbox, still wanted to draw attention to the game and their platform. The solution? They created a fictional product. The product is a Blue Crystal bottle of perfume with the label, being the same as the game called "Destiny,"

As expected, this little marketing stunt caused a lot of interest, and was picked up by fans of the game on many social media channels. This was purely a stunt though, the actual promotional perfume was never actually made.

Still this is a great example of how promotional products, can be used in a cheeky way to generate interest for your product or your service.

"The new fragrance by Xbox," reads the copy on a simple ad (posted to Xbox's social channels late last week) with a blue crystal bottle labeled Destiny. The equally coy website encourages visitors to check with retailers about Xbox One offers.
