Today I want to share with your a merchandising effort, done by Pizza Hut. Admittedly this was done a few years ago, but the creativity and awesomeness are undeniably timeless.

Merchandising and custom branding onto products can be tricky sometimes. Having your merchandise too outrageous (especially when it comes to apparel), and no one will want to wear it. On the other hand, having bland and boring designs may also mean that no one would like to wear them too. So how do you strike a balance? There is no definitive answer, but I can tell you that this effort by Pizza Hut is successful in finding that balance.

What I like About The Designs

I love all the designs done by Pizza Hut for this range of apparel. They all feature Pizza motifs after all, and I really love Pizza. It is not just randomly printing Pizzas onto the clothing though. The prints are humorous, witty, sharp, and feature just enough design work to make it interesting, but also fewer designs to enable these garments to be worn everyday without looking like a weirdo. Couple with the fact, that these designs are printed sharply and crisply and the result is an absolute delight.

Promotional Items Done Right

Pizza Hut really knocked it out the park with their promotional items! What I love about their approach is that they didn't just slap their logo on some boring t-shirts and call it a day. No no, they crafted unique pieces that anyone would want to wear - even if they weren't a fan of pizza (which is hard to imagine, but hey).

And here's the best part: while the Pizza Hut brand is definitely present, it doesn't feel overwhelming or in your face. It's subtle, yet effective. As someone who works in marketing myself, I can appreciate how difficult this balance can be to strike. But when you get it right? The results speak for themselves.
