Poor Tasmania. Our Southern cousins get a bit of a raw deal. Aside from all the unpleasant rural jokes at their expense, they have an unfortunate tendency to be forgotten when it comes to depictions of the Australian landmass. Case in point, a line of Australia Day Branded Merchandise that Woolworths were selling. A line of caps that had Australia branded on the crown. Caps that were lacking Tasmania. Ouch.

The Forgotten State

Needless to say a number of Tasmanians weren't impressed, and Woolworths has said that they'd withdraw the caps from sale. But it's not the first or even the most unfortunate time that Tasmania has been literally left off the map.

The famed Australian swim gear for the 2014 Commonwealth games featured a cunning and eye catching mosaic of the country, kangaroos and emus. But no Tasmania. Maybe it was just hidden behind the animals?

Arnott's brand Australia Day themed "Shapes" snacks was lacking Tasmania. Although to be fair, there's no way to connect it to the rest of the Biscuit without making Victoria look like it's sprouting growths. Sadly, our finest biscuit engineers and craftsman lack the technology.

Baz Luhrmann's rather extravagant film Australia was also missing Tasmania. And I'm sure a few offended Tasmanians found themselves missing Australia in return.

And this one which I remember from my childhood. The limited edition Australian Gameboy Color. Featuring translucent green and gold design, "Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie" slogan at the bottom, and our flag and country, again missing Tasmania. So very inspiring in its patriotism. Apart from anyone in Tasmania I suppose.
