Client story · Colour-in tote bags

Bridging The Gap

Bridging The Gap ordered large colour-in tote bags for their Parent Pathways program, alongside branded laptop sleeves. The bags are printed with black line art — “Ted’s Busy Bag” — for a child to colour in themselves. Both lines arrived together, and the verdict was immediate: they look great.

The brief

A giveaway a child can make their own

For a community organisation, merchandise is rarely about marketing. Bridging The Gap’s Parent Pathways program works with parents and their children, so the brief called for something a family could actually use together. A large colour-in tote does two jobs at once: it is a roomy, practical bag for the adult, and an activity for the child — which is a far better way to be remembered than a logo alone.

“Morning — both arrived today, they look great, thank you.”
Kelly Tillett · Bridging The Gap
The build

A bag the child finishes themselves

The design is deliberately unfinished. Printed in black line art on natural canvas — bubble letters, an outline teddy, hearts, stars and a “dream, plan, achieve” signpost — the bag arrives as something to be coloured in rather than something already complete. One-colour printing is what makes that work: clean outlines with open space inside them, and no printed colour competing with the child’s. The Parent Pathways and Bridging The Gap marks sit together on the front in the same single colour.

The result

Both lines together, and they look great

Hannah Calvo and Mary Haycell Aguirre coordinated the totes and the laptop sleeves so both arrived on the same day — which matters when two products are meant to be handed out as a set. Kelly confirmed it the morning they landed. A colour-in tote outlives most giveaways twice over: the child keeps the bag they decorated, and the Parent Pathways name travels with it.
