Port Pacific Resort in Port Macquarie welcomes families and holidaymakers exploring the NSW Mid North Coast. To add a thoughtful touch to its hospitality, the resort ordered custom plush koalas with soft grey fur, fluffy ears and cream-coloured paws.

A Koala to Remember
Port Macquarie is well known for its wildlife, particularly its koalas, which have become a much-loved part of the region’s identity. That made plush koalas a natural choice for the resort’s merchandise, especially with so many families visiting the area for a coastal getaway.
They’re also a lovely choice for families with young children. Kids can cuddle them on the trip home and keep them on their beds or shelves long after the holiday ends. It’s a simple souvenir that brings back happy holiday memories.
The Problem
Branding a plush koala isn’t quite as straightforward as printing on a tote bag or T-shirt. The soft, fluffy fur makes it difficult to print directly onto the toy, especially when the artwork includes lettering that needs to stay clear.
There’s also the question of where to put the logo. The resort needed its name to be easy to recognise without covering up the koala’s cute features. A small branding area meant the design had to be carefully considered.
Mary’s Approach to Branding
Our account manager, Mary Aguirre-Cruz, came up with a practical way to get the resort’s branding onto the koalas. The solution was simple: give each one its own little T-shirt! The white shirts featured the resort’s name in blue, with a small yellow detail underneath. The shirts gave Mary a smooth surface for the artwork, so the lettering could be printed neatly without getting lost in the fluffy fur. The resort’s name was easy to spot, and the koalas still looked like cuddly toys that kids would love to take home. The resort later got back to confirm that the koalas had arrived and looked okay. It was only a quick note, but it was still lovely to hear everything had arrived as expected. For Mary and our team, it was a fun little project to work on and a good reminder that sometimes the simplest ideas work best.
