Yarra Trams

Eliza Schmidt from Yarra Trams, which runs Melbourne’s well-known tram network, ordered custom blue towels from Cubic Promote. These towels had colourful tram-themed artwork with lots of detailed touches. Our account manager, Mary Haycell Aguirre-Cruz, worked with our production team to get the detailed artwork onto the towels.

Practical Towels for Yarra Trams Workers
For people working across Melbourne’s transport network, having a towel nearby is handy, especially in the warmer months. Staff can keep one in their bag or locker for a quick freshen-up, after exercise, or even for personal use outside of work. Towels also make practical staff merchandise because they can be washed and reused regularly. With Yarra Trams’ colourful artwork added to the fabric, the company had a functional item that also reflected its connection to Melbourne’s tram network.
Getting the Detailed Artwork Right
The artwork was much more than a simple logo. It showed a detailed green, black, and white Melbourne tram, with windows, tracks, overhead power lines, and stylised lettering. But putting such detailed artwork on a towel comes with a few challenges, such as:
- Fine lines on the tram tracks and overhead wires could become blurred or lose definition.
- Intricate details on the windows, doors and tram panels needed to remain recognisable.
- Multiple colours required enough contrast to prevent smaller elements from blending together.
- Stylised lettering could become difficult to read if the details weren’t reproduced clearly.
- Artwork placement needed enough space to show the complete illustration without crowding the design.
Mary Got the Job Done
Mary focused on choosing the right print size so the tram’s fine lines, lettering and colours would remain clear on the textured fabric. Since only a specific section of the towel could be printed, she had to make sure the entire illustration fitted within that space without losing its smaller details. And it turned out well! After receiving the towels, Eliza Schmidt emailed Mary to confirm they had arrived and looked good. It was lovely to hear that she was pleased with the finished design, especially given how detailed the artwork was.
