Someone from Creative Concept Designs Pty Ltd came to us with an umbrella brief that had very little to do with rain. CCD is a Sydney-based exhibition design, manufacturing and project management company with more than 25 years of experience creating branded spaces for trade shows, conferences, exhibitions, fit-outs and events. For this indoor event, the umbrellas were used as props, so their priority was to make them look right in the space.
Mary Aguirre-Cruz, our account manager, worked with the team to ensure the product matched the styling direction, rather than treating it like a standard umbrella order.

The Details Were More Important Than the Quantity
Mary Aguirre-Cruz, our account manager, worked with Katherine through a surprisingly specific list of requirements. The umbrellas needed:
- a span of around 1,200–1,800 mm
- a pole no thicker than 40 mm
- an ideal height of approximately 2,200 mm
- a straight bottom pole to fit inside a bar-table base
- fabric that looked more like a sun shade than a waterproof outdoor umbrella
- striped finishes that worked with the event styling
While it was only a four-piece order, every measurement mattered because the umbrellas had to fit into an existing set rather than stand on their own.

Where Function Took a Back Seat to Styling
Once the umbrellas were in place, they tied the whole setup together and gave CCD the beachy look they were after. The nice surprise was that people started noticing them for more than just the styling. CCD’s clients were asking about the umbrellas themselves because the finish and quality looked so good up close.
For something meant to be a prop, they ended up doing a bit more work than expected. They suited the space, looked the part, and got people talking. For us at Cubic Promote, that’s a pretty good outcome too! When a client’s customers start asking where the product came from, you know the quality has done its job.
