Northcote Intermediate

Northcote Intermediate ordered Mop Top Pens for students. Because the recipients were kids, the team chose these novelty pens. Shealeigh Keeney, the account manager who handled the order, secured every detail and file needed, and we started production as soon as the mockup was approved. The Mop Top design added a playful element, while underneath it remained something students could actually use for writing at school or at home.

Why the Mop Top Style Worked
Pens already make sense in a school environment, so we did not need to create an artificial connection between the product and the audience. The main decision was choosing a version students would be more likely to enjoy receiving. Mop Top Pens offered:
- everyday use for writing and schoolwork
- a playful design aimed at younger recipients
- an item students could keep in their pencil cases
- enough personality to stand apart from a normal pen
Production Process
After they approved the free artwork mockup we sent, we immediately started production. During the process, we made sure that all the printing looked consistent across all 1,000 units they ordered. We also checked the quality of these pens so they don’t break easily if dropped. Once ready, we immediately dispatched the boxes and had them delivered to their office.
Making School Merchandise More Enjoyable
Students see pens every day. If a school is going to give them another one, it helps to choose something with a little more personality. The Mop Top design gave Northcote Intermediate that difference without sacrificing usefulness.
For us, that balance was the strongest part of the order. It was fun enough to feel like a giveaway, while still fitting into a student’s daily routine. Shealeigh helped the school organise something easy to distribute, appropriate for children and useful well after the initial handout.
