Best Logo File Format for Printing: EPS, PDF, PNG, or JPEG?

Key Points:

  • EPS or vector PDF files with outlined text are the best format we recommend.
  • JPEG files are limited to specific full-colour or embroidery applications and must be high resolution.
  • Incorrect file types require conversion before production to avoid print quality issues.

Choosing the right file format is important to make sure your logo looks crisp on your chosen item. We highly recommend sending vector EPS or PDF files. JPEG files, while acceptable, are only suited to certain decoration methods.

This also ties into our guide, Print or Engraving on Promotional Products, which explains how artwork and branding method work together.

In this blog, we break down why the right format matters and how we can help you correct your file’s format. Here is what you need to know before submitting your logo.

Why File Format Matters

Printing is not the same as a digital display. On screen, most logos look sharp. When printed, problems like blurry edges, pixelation, incorrect colours, and jagged curves may occur. This usually happens when a poor file format is provided during pre-production.

Quick Comparison

File Format Suitable for Branding? Scalable Without Quality Loss Accepted by Cubic Promote
EPS (with outlines) Yes Yes Yes
PDF (vector, outlined) Yes Yes Yes
High-Resolution JPEG Limited methods only No Limited use
PNG Not accepted for branding No No
BMP, TIFF, GIF Not accepted No No

The Best Format: EPS or Vector PDF

EPS or PDF files with vector outlines are the required artwork format. Files must:

  • Be vector format
  • Have all text converted to outlines.
  • Be ready for production.

We know how challenging it can be to print on curved areas like branded pens and custom drink bottles. That’s why ensuring that you submit the correct format helps us print your logo accurately. This format works on pad printing, screen printing, digital printing, and embroidery.

When JPEG Files Are Acceptable

In some cases, a high-resolution JPEG can be used. JPEG files are only suitable for:

  • Embroidery (for example, corporate jackets)
  • Full-colour direct digital printing (for example, promotional t-shirts)
  • Full-colour transfer printing

But take note that the file must be in high resolution.

File Types That Cannot Be Used

In my experience at Cubic Promote, logo file format issues are one of the most common causes of print quality problems. When the supplied file isn’t suitable for professional printing, it restricts output quality and may delay production while corrections are made. That’s why choosing the correct logo file format from the start protects both timelines and brand presentation.

The following file types are not accepted for branding:

  • BMP
  • TIFF
  • GIF
  • Non-vectorised PDFs
  • Low-resolution images

These formats do not meet our artwork requirements and result in poor print output. If you have only these file types, a redraw is required before branding can proceed.

Artwork Conversion Service

If you need your logo in the correct format, Cubic Promote provides a logo conversion service for a fixed fee.

Logo Conversion: $35 AUD
Your logo will be redrawn in Adobe EPS or PDF format, using vector lines. What you receive:

  • A professionally redrawn vector file
  • A digital proof to approve accuracy
  • A reusable file for future branding, website use, or print needs

Our in-house graphic design services ensure your artwork meets branding standards across all promotional products. Minor updates, such as colour, date, or slogan changes, are included. If you do not have your logo in the correct branding format, a redraw is required.

How to Check Your File Before Submitting

If you are unsure whether your file is vector:

  1. Open the file.
  2. Zoom in significantly.
  3. If edges remain perfectly smooth, it is likely a vector.
  4. If you see visible pixels or blur, it is not suitable.

If you are uncertain, send the file through for verification before placing your order.

Our clients regularly mention that they value the pre-check process because it gives them confidence before production starts. It reduces back-and-forth and helps ensure their branding prints cleanly.

What Happens Next?

Once your artwork is confirmed in the correct format, we can proceed. A visual mock-up is available on request. After you place a purchase order, a formal proof will be sent for approval. Production begins only after artwork approval.

If you’re unsure about your file, talk to our account managers or email [email protected] for verification.
