Blunt Sports vs. Hurricane Air-Vented Golf Umbrella: A Premium Showdown

By 9 September 2025Outdoors & Leisure

The custom Golf Umbrellas we stock are huge in both size and popularity! They admittedly do take up a lot of footpath space when it’s rainy. However, they will keep you drier than any other promotional umbrella that we stock. When it comes to golf umbrellas, durability are key considerations. Today, I’m comparing two of the most premium promotional umbrellas in our range: the Blunt Sports and the Hurricane Air-Vented Golf Umbrella. Both are designed to handle severe weather, but each takes a very different approach. Let’s look at them side by side and see which comes out on top.

Size & Presence on a Golf Course

The Blunt Sports spreads out to an impressive 150 cm (54 inches) across when open, making it one of the widest golf umbrellas on the market.

The Hurricane Air-Vented umbrella, while slightly more compact it measures at 125cm, still offers plenty of coverage. It’s built for practicality, with a span that comfortably shelters one or two people without feeling oversized.

Who Wins?: The Blunt Sports Wins (By a lot)

Weight & Everyday Use

Weight is where you really notice differences during a long day outside.

  • Blunt Sports: about 1kilogram. Solid and heavy, you can carry it for a while, but you will notice its weight. (note the real world weight of this umbrella is heavier than their official listed weight on their website)
  • Hurricane Air-Vented: comes in lighter at 730grams, thanks to its reinforced ribs and venting system.

If you value lightness, the Hurricane has the edge. If you like a more substantial umbrella that feels grounded then its Blunt Sports.

Who Wins?: The Hurricane Wins on being light weight (by a lot)

Tip Design: Safety vs. Tradition

One of Blunt’s most distinctive features is its rounded safety tips. They miss, poke, or fray material around them — a thoughtful design detail that makes the umbrella safer to use in crowded spaces.

The Hurricane, on the other hand, keeps the classic sharp tips. It gives the umbrella a more traditional golf look, though with the trade-off of being a little less forgiving if you brush against someone.

Who Wins? The Blunt Sports (Technologically far superior)

Internal Structure: Simple vs. Complex

Inside the canopy is where these umbrellas really diverge.

The Blunt Sports has a simple, modular frame. Each part — canopy, ribs, shaft — is designed for easy assembly and repair. If something breaks, the modular system means it can usually be replaced rather than the whole umbrella discarded.

The Hurricane is built differently. Its reinforced multi-rib system is robust but more intricate. That complexity gives it strength, but if one component snaps under pressure, repairs can be more challenging.

Air Vents: Built for the Wind

This is where the Hurricane really shines. Its dual air vents allow wind to pass through the canopy rather than fighting against it. On blustery days, you feel the difference — less risk of the canopy flipping, and a much calmer experience overall.

The Blunt Sports, interestingly, doesn’t use vents at all. Instead, it relies on its unique tensioned canopy shape to handle wind. The sheer strength of the umbrella and the amazing engineering makes it virtually impossible to flip.

Who Wins? It is a Draw

Branding & Print Area

For businesses and events, the print area is often just as important as performance.

The Blunt Sports offers a huge branding canvas. Its oversized panels are perfect for bold logos, big colour fills, or full-coverage designs. If you want your branding to be unmistakable from a distance, Blunt is the clear winner.

The Hurricane, although slightly smaller, still provides a solid print space. Its panels are clean and neat, but your logo won’t dominate quite the same way as it would on the Blunt.

Who Wins? Blunt Sports (By a lot, the branding area is HUGE)

Which Premium Promo Umbrella Wins?

Test Winner Why
Size & Presence Blunt Sports 150cm span vs 125cm – one of the widest golf umbrellas on the market.
Weight & Everyday Use Hurricane 730g vs 1kg – significantly lighter for everyday carrying.
Tip Design & Safety Blunt Sports Rounded safety tips vs sharp tips – technologically far superior and safer.
Internal Structure Blunt Sports Simple modular frame vs complex multi-rib – easier repair and superior engineering.
Wind Resistance Draw Hurricane has dual air vents, Blunt has tensioned canopy – both effective approaches.
Branding & Print Area Blunt Sports Huge branding canvas vs solid print space – unmistakable branding from distance.
🏆 FINAL RESULT Blunt Sports WINS Superior in 4 key categories vs 1 for Hurricane – the premium choice for branding impact

Real World Winner (For My Personal Opinion)

Between the two, I use the Hurricane Air-Vented more often. And the Blunt. Why? Well, it is lighter, that difference in weight makes a big difference to me as I catch public transport usually in Sydney. The venting system really does make a difference in windy conditions, and I like the solid, lighter feel. It’s the umbrella I trust when I know I’ll be out in unpredictable weather. That said, I understand entirely why clients often choose the Blunt Sports — its bold print area and safety tips make it a standout for branding and style. That and also it has less complexity within its frame, so it is more than likely not to break so easily.

Summing It All Up

Both umbrellas are premium choices, but they serve slightly different priorities:

  • Choose the Blunt Sports if you want maximum branding impact and a lightweight umbrella with clever safety features.
  • Choose the Hurricane Air-Vented if you prioritise wind performance, durability, and stability, even if it means carrying a bit of extra weight.
