DIY Office SlingShot Using Promotional Pencils

By 6 March 2017March 12th, 2025Stationery & Pens

Branded pencils are an office staple the world over. No matter what kind of office you’re in, it’s likely you’ll be able to get your hands on some promotional pencils. But have you ever wondered what you can do with them? (Aside from write, that is.) This easy-to-make slingshot idea is a great project for when you’re bored at your desk and have a few pencils to spare!

  1. Get creative with promotional pencils.
  2. Build a DIY office slingshot.
  3. Explore outdoor uses for slingshots.

A Unique Use For Promotional Stationery

YouTube user DaveHax has come up with this great slingshot idea that uses nothing but standard available office materials, including pencils. Here’s a complete list of items you’ll need:

  • 4 promotional pencils
  • 4 rubber bands
  • 1 pen for your arrow
  • 1 binder clip
  • Tape

Your first step is to use two of the rubber bands to tie two of your pencils together like the above.  You then use tape to adhere the other two pencils together as well.

You then use a third rubber band to tie the two sets of pencils together. Once this is done take the lid from your pen and cut the tip off. You then neatly tuck it to the end of your slingshot contraption per above.

You then use the fourth and final rubber band to loop up and slip in between the sharpened end of the horizontal pencils. You then pull the band back until it is taut. Wherever it sits (generally towards the end of the vertical pencils) is where you will need to tape your binder clip.

Almost done! Now you take the outer plastic barrel from around your pen so only the light ink tube and tip are left. Gentle thread the tube into the end of the pen lid and bring it down to rest on the clip. Your rubber band should be held by the binder clip. When you’re ready to shoot, simply unclip and pow! Off it shoots!

This is a great project to put together if you’ve got a few moments spare in the office, as well as some stationery roaming free. Have a competition with your co-workers to see who can hit a bullseye!

Slingshot: Fun in Office and Outdoors

A DIY slingshot can be a fun and creative way to use promotional pencils, but it can also serve as a useful tool for outdoor recreation. Here are a few ways that you can use a slingshot beyond the office:

  • Camping and hiking: A slingshot can be used to gather food such as fruits and nuts or even deflect some dangerous animals. It can serve as an excellent survival tool.
  • Team building exercises: A slingshot can be a fun addition to team building exercises. You can organise targets to shoot at or even create a fun competition between employees.
  • Hunting and pest control: Slingshots can be used as an alternative to firearms for hunting small game. It is also an eco-friendly way of pest control as it requires manual aim and does not rely on chemicals.
  • Gardening: A slingshot can be used to direct attention, scare away birds and pesky squirrels that munch on your fruit trees and save your food.
