There is something mystical I find about playing cards. A deck of playing cards is special because it is so very unique. If you think about it a deck of cards can fit a shirt pocket yet the graphics on a deck of cards are so very special and so very recognisable. These simple cards have influenced movies, and comics not to mention their close association with gambling too! A deck of playing cards is simply special. Who Invented Playing Cards?

From my research seemingly no one really knows however many think that it was heavily influenced by China due to the fact that they were the inventors of paper. However, the deck of cards as we know it today is widely thought to have been brought to the west approximately in the year 1370. The humble deck of cards has had its design influenced by the Indians, Egyptians, Italians, Spanish, Americans, and French. Talk about a multicultural game! The French in particular are responsible for the modern motifs that are on today’s decks that we are all familiar with. Each Suit has a symbolic meaning. They are:

Hearts Symbolize The Church
Spades Symbolize The Upper Class
Diamonds Symbolize the Army
Clubs Symbolize the Peasants

Later on, when playing cards were introduced to America the new card the Joker was introduced.

Production of Custom Playing Cards

Later as their popularity caught on production methods shifted to pre-done stencils which meant faster and lower-cost production. The English later invented a lamination process that allowed the cards to be shuffled and dealt with quickly and smoothly.
