Why These Custom Plush Wombats Are Winning Hearts (and Clients)

By 4 August 2025Toys & Games

We recently had the privilege of working on a custom plush project that’s already become an office favourite—a trio of pre-production samples of an adorable wombat designed from scratch for a corporate client. While plush toys may appear simple on the surface, they are pretty complex. The effort, precision, and ethical considerations behind these little creatures reveal a larger story. What’s possible when branding meets craftsmanship? Let’s take a closer look at how these wombats were made—and why they’re such a hit.

Client Brief: A Wombat with Character (and Claws)

The brief was straightforward: design a soft toy wombat that was both cute and sturdy. It must also effectively represent the brand. We knew immediately with this brief that details would make or break the outcome. Our client wanted something that felt real, not in a photorealistic way, but in a “you’d want to hug it and show it off” kind of way. And they were right to expect more than just a generic stuffed animal.

High-Level Attention to Detail

What makes this plush project stand out isn’t just the shape or softness—it’s the layers of care behind each design decision. If you are hugging the plushie, you may not even notice; however, we did. The 3x plushies you see are not all the same. Here are the tiny differences and faults that were identified and subsequently rectified.

  • Precision around the eyes: We collaborated with our Sedex-certified manufacturer to trim excess fabric around the eyes, resulting in a neater, more expressive finish.
  • close up of plushie wombat eye
  • Accurate claws: Yes, we counted them—because the number of claws matters. Our samples ensured consistency across all paws.Claws of a custom branded plushie
  • Ear colour match: Each wombat’s inner ear had to be the exact shade specified in the original brief. Even slight colour variation would’ve thrown off the whole look.

The Feel Matters Too

Holding one of these wombats in your hands, you’ll notice they’re not flimsy or under-filled. We worked closely with our supplier to ensure the final product was:

  • Solid and huggable – The body is sturdy enough to maintain its shape, yet still soft to the touch.
  • Low-shed fur – No one wants a plush toy that leaves fibres everywhere. We used high-grade, tightly bound plush fabric that resists shedding.
  • Needle-scanned for safety – Every plushie is scanned before leaving the factory to ensure there are no leftover needles or metal fragments in the stuffing. It’s an invisible process, but one that adds real peace of mind.

Ethical Manufacturing, Every Step of the Way

These plushies weren’t just made well—they were made ethically. The definition of made sustainable means this to us:

  • Made in sweatshop-free factories
  • No underage labour
  • safe working conditions
  • fair pay

Our business is a member of SEDEX (Sedex Member No:ZC419438955), and we partner exclusively with Sedex-audited manufacturers. This means the factory follows global standards for labour, transparency, and environmental practices.

From raw materials to the stitching floor, every stage of this wombat’s journey was traceable and responsible. And yes, we believe that matters—not just to us, but to every client who wants their brand aligned with sustainability and fairness.

Why Clients Love Custom Plush Toys

If you’re wondering why a brand might invest in custom plush toys, the answer is simple: they stick around. A plushie becomes a desk mascot, a shelf conversation starter, or a keepsake. That kind of emotional stickiness is hard to beat. And when it’s made to reflect a brand’s character—whether playful, caring, or uniquely Aussie—it leaves a more profound impression.

A Few Other Details That Matter to Buyers

We’ve worked on numerous plush orders to understand what corporate clients value. So here’s what else these wombats delivered:

  • Custom belly tags or labels – These can include the brand name, care instructions, or campaign slogans.
  • Pantone-matched thread and fabric – so your plush toy doesn’t just feel like your brand, it looks like it too.
  • MOQ flexibility – While custom plush usually involves larger volumes, we can often arrange small runs for internal events, loyalty programs, or VIP gifting.
