Over the last few years adult colouring has become somewhat of a craze. The relaxing, therapeutic benefits of the activity have inspired hundreds and hundreds of complex coloring books across the globe and the popularity itself has caused a pencil shortage. At Cubic Promote however, we still have heaps available and you can brand them with your logo here.

You'd think that the new trend, which has seen pencil sales spike in 2015 by 26% compared to a normal YOY growth of no more than 7.2%, would be fantastic news for the pencil industry. However the stationary companies like Faber-Castell and Stabilo are struggling to keep up with demand. A rep from Faber-Castell told the Independant:

"Currently, we are running more shifts than usual in our factory in Stein, Bavaria in order to satisfy the global needs for artists pencils related to the colouring trend for adults.".

Unlike children, adults are not just satisfied with the standard 36 colours in a pencil set and instead there is high demand for 72 and even 120 colours.

Also unlike children's books, there is a massive range of colouring books for adults with incredible designs for you to add colour to. Waterstones (a UK book shop) has been surprised to see many of these books in the best seller lists, particularly noticing a 300% increase in sales in one year.

Johanna Basford is a best-selling colouring book illustrator and has sold 16 million copies of her book 'Secret Garden' worldwide. Basford believes that the rise in popularity is down to the natural urge to escape technology in a digital age.

“There is something nice about picking up a pencil and a pen. You are not going to get interrupted by Twitter, and there is also a childhood nostalgia element to it.”
