Promotional Caps & Avoiding Cap Hair

By 10 January 2013March 12th, 2025Branded Apparel & Accessories

What is Cap Hair or Hat hair is a syndrome that affects all Aussie men and women who prefer to wear caps or hats. I wear caps all the time. In fact at least for a minimum of 3 days a week you would see me in either a promotional cap, a paddy cap or a beanie. Headwear for me is not a style statement but merely a convenience. I simply do not need to comb my hair in the morning. However, the bad thing about wearing headwear is that it needs to be taken off at sometime during the day. They do get warm and at times your head does get itchy and realistically it is also not terribly polite to wear headwear indoors anyway. When hats are taken off though hair tends to fall flat around your scalp. By that, I mean pancake flat and very very nasty looking. In this post, we’ll discuss how to avoid this and the important things you need to know about promotional caps.

  1. Avoid hair products, embrace conditioner.
  2. Choose breathable 100% cotton caps.
  3. Opt for ventilation and moisture-wicking.

Cap Hair Avoidance Tips

Here are some handy tips which I can recommend to avoid cap hair. All of these tips I have experienced first hand so I can vouch for their effectiveness.

Tip #1: Avoid hair styling products at ALL costs. Hair sprays, gels, mouse, wax, and gunk are absolutely horrible when combined with hats. They will make your head smell a lot and will also emphasize flat hair even more. It even makes hair feel funny on your scalp by being all clingy and itchy.

Tip #2: Conditioner really helps. The night before load up on the hair conditioner big time and chances are you reduce the severity of flat hair the next day.

Tip #3: Get the hat that fits just a little bit big. If it’s an adjustable promotional cap then make sure you loosen the buckles. I recommend a minimum of two finger spacing between your head and the cap. In fact, go for 3 where possible (although make sure you look in the mirror in case you look a bit like a bobble head figurine).

Tip #4 Wet hair makes hat hair even flatter. Avoid wearing hats with sweaty or wet hair

Tip #5: Use a wet towel and basically scratch and rub your hair. If you do not have a wet towel then just use your hands. You will need to restyle your hair afterwards though.

Tip #6: Above #5 method + hand dryer with a swivel nozzle aimed towards your head.

Tip #7: For ladies (or blokes with long hair) tie your hair into a bun then wear your hat. When you take your hat off just unravel the bun and shake

Tip #8: This applies more specifically to caps. If you were looking at budget promotional caps these are great but the fabric does not breathe as easily as mid priced options. So where possible go for 100% cotton caps for breathability.

Hope these tips help you a bit. I know I have started most of this years articles on a bit more of the style side of things so stay tuned for more tips and hints!

Breathability and Fabric Choice

When it comes to promotional caps, breathability is key. Consider the following factors:

  • Opt for 100% Cotton Caps: If you’re browsing budget promotional caps, keep in mind that their fabric may not breathe as easily as mid-priced options. Look for caps made of 100% cotton for maximum breathability. Cotton is a natural and lightweight material that allows air circulation, keeping your head cool and reducing the likelihood of sweat and discomfort.
  • Check Ventilation Features: Look for caps with ventilation holes or mesh panels that promote airflow. These features enhance breathability, preventing heat build-up and reducing the chances of sweat accumulating under the cap. Ventilation holes also contribute to overall comfort, allowing for greater air circulation around your scalp.
  • Consider Moisture-Wicking Technology: Some promotional caps come with moisture-wicking technology that helps to keep sweat away from your scalp. These caps are designed to absorb moisture and quickly evaporate it, keeping you dry and comfortable. Moisture-wicking caps can be particularly beneficial during outdoor activities or in hot weather when sweat production is increased.
  • Choose Lightweight Fabrics: Opt for caps made of lightweight materials such as brushed cotton or polyester microfiber. These fabrics are breathable and help reduce heat retention, preventing excessive sweating and discomfort. Lightweight caps are ideal for extended wear, providing a balance between style, comfort, and practicality.

Summary

Now you know all about cap hair and how to avoid it. Remember, skip the hair styling products, give your hair some conditioner love, choose a slightly bigger cap, and keep those locks dry. And when it comes to promotional caps, go for breathable 100% cotton ones, with ventilation features and moisture-wicking technology if possible. Lightweight fabrics like brushed cotton or polyester microfiber are the way to go, mate. Stay stylish and comfy!
