We weren't going to close the week on another fast food product, but this week saw McDonald's in the US launch a new advertising campaign based on the fairly universal experience of not knowing exactly what to order when visiting a restaurant. Along with some social media posts and a short ad, the internationally recognised franchise also released custom printed tees in their US online store. Simple, Funny Promotional Tees

While the "can I get uhhhhh" meme has been around for as long as people have been dining out, the classic scenario still plays out in fast food restaurants all over the world each day. We've all seen it and we've all done it, let's be real, gone up to the counter or rolled up to the drive-thru and responded to the customer service rep's question of what we'd like to order with "Can I get uhhhhhh" while we attempt to make a decision mid-sentence.

So it isn't really surprising then that burger giant McDonald's decided to incorporate this line into their latest advertising campaign. From social media posts declaring without context "Can I get uhhhhhh" through to a short TV commercial full of everyday Americans fumbling to get their orders out, this new ad lovingly makes fun of the everyday struggle that is ordering a meal.

Custom Printed T-Shirts for Marketing

Given how universal the "Can I get uhhhhh" meme is, it was an obvious smart move for McDonald's to launch some custom branded merchandise based on the line. Because this is only a relatively small, humorous campaign it didn't get the gold treatment of a whole limited edition merchandise line, but the two products that the company did create (a promotional t-shirt and a logo printed bumper sticker) are absolutely perfect for their purpose.

Branded t-shirts are one of the best go-to products for brand advertising whether you're a multinational company or a local market stall, people love wearing slogans and designs for others to see. Similarly bumper stickers are an affordable choice for messages that work on cars and trucks (which, well, this one obviously does due to the drive-thru connection). The designs themselves use basic company colours and fonts but that's all you need to instantly recognise the graphics as being from McDonald's.

Overall for a small advertising campaign meant for a giggle, this is a well done promotion and it shows that when it comes to promotional merchandise sometimes less truly is more.
