I came across the beautiful Superman branded coins. These coins are real coins produced by the Canadian Mint. Originally a complete Superman set was produced last year to celebrate the caped crusader's 75th anniversary. This year they have released more of the same thing and the results are absolutely spectacular.

The interesting thing about these coins is that they are a perfect example of how a well placed design or graphic can increase the price of a product. In these examples the increase in price is quite dramatic. A $10 coin for example is worth $10. With a Superman graphic, they then sell for $70, which in my mind is still great value, considering these are limited edition coins which look fabulous.

This is the 14 carat gold coin. It is officially worth $100 in Canadian currency. IT features the famous S logo as well as the image of Superman. A common coin is normally quite flat visually, however once again, using a combination of a 3 dimensional image as well as aspects of Clark Kent's clothing that overlaps with the coin itself, an impressive 3 dimensional result is achieved. The striking red and black colour simply puts the amazing visual of this coin over the top.

This coin is the 2014 silver Canadian $10 coin. If you are a fan you would know where this image comes from. For those who do not know this is the front cover of the first ever edition of Superman. This coin is only produced in lots of 10,000 pieces.

This particular image is Superman from edition number 419. The original comic book was released in 1972. The branding on this coin is quite special as parts of the coin overlap the image and the overall Superman character seems to be jumping out of the coin. Once again, only 10,000 pieces were produced.

Great Promotional Product for the Canadians?

I am not too sure if these coins were intended to raise revenues, or if they are a genuine celebration of one of the world's favourite Super heroes. Perhaps it is merely just a marketing product for tourism? Who knows, however the results are very impressive.
