Logo design tends to follow particular trends when it comes to looks. Some are timeless enough that they fit in any situation, some are just so famous that they're considered classics, and then are some that happen to show their age. Here are several examples of logos taken from the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's, and for several logo designs, you can certainly see their age. Not that that's a bad thing necessarily, as we've seen some absolutely stunning old school logo designs in the past.

Old School Logo Design

Case in point, the above design. The Aquastat logo was designed in 1960's, and it looks like it belongs on the cover of a Beatles album or something. Very groovy.

New York Economic Development Council, complete with a 3D effect. Which way is it coming from? Is it coming or going? Are you tripping out yet? How very psychedelic for what is presumably a rather serious organisation.

The logo design for Ivan Brissenden & Partners. With a company name like that you'd think... Law Firm perhaps. Or a group of accountants. Sober looking professionals in sharp suits who do serious business. This logo on the other hand suggests an unlikely group of cops like Starsky and Hutch, complete with funk and soul soundtrack.

A logo for the University of Cincinnati from 1970. I'm getting something of a pop-art style feel from this.

And finally, a simple timeless design from 1966 for British Railways. Because even though it was designed in the 1960s, doesn't necessarily mean it had to have such a "groovy" design.
