Promotional Products With Additional Features

You may think we're exaggerating, but there are a lot of items around the house that you've likely bought or been given over the years that have additional functions or elements that you may not already be familiar with. Here are the four most surprising products with features that can go unnoticed.

custom household item wine glass

4) Wine Glass Stems

Wine glasses are found in almost every home in Australia, but have you ever wondered why they have stems? Most other promotional glassware has a handle, or you are simply encouraged to grip the main body of the cup. Not so with wine glasses, whether designed for white or red, the stems are there to ensure we DON'T touch the body of the glass with our hands. Why is that? Well because the wine is being served at an ideal temperature if we touch the glass with our hands our body temperature can warm the wine. The best way to hold the glass stem is to pinch it between your index finger and thumb.

custom household item stapler

3) Metal Tips on Staplers

We've all handled a custom stapler or two over the years, whether we work in an office or just have paperwork at home. Interestingly a lot of staplers come with a rounded metal tip at the base that, while noticeable in the above image, can often be quite hard to spot on a standard stapler. This little feature isn't just part of making staplers look good. However, it's an inbuilt staple remover! While there are some staplers nowadays with more prominent staple removal elements, this classic extra is often hidden in plain sight but can come in handy when you're busy!

custom household item tape measure

2) Hole at the End of Tape Measures

Whether you're a regular handyman or someone who has just had to measure a room for some furniture, you've had contact with a classic yellow tape measure. Most people don't know that the tip of each tape measure comes with an additional feature to make life easier -- a tiny hole in the metal element that can catch and hold onto nails, preventing the tape from springing back. Tradies take advantage of this feature every day, so why not utilise it next time you have to measure something.

custom household item bic pens

1) Promotional Pen Caps

Now this one isn't a fun bonus function so much as it is a very important safety feature. Quality pens (such as the branded pen range from BiC) feature caps with little holes in the tips. We're quite used to seeing these holes, so they don't raise an eyebrow, but do you know why they're there in the first place? Pen caps have holes at the end of them as a safety measure in case someone swallows them. If a child swallowed a pen lid that didn't have a hole, their air supply could be cut off immediately. The hole ensures air can continue to get through even in the event of it being swallowed. Not a super fun feature, but one that has undoubtedly saved countless lives over the years.
