There was a time when headwear for ladies and gentlemen were the norm. Headwear etiquette that defined hats as a must wear accessory outdoors and when indoors they were to be taken off. Well we have moved a long way since then. With each passing decade a more relaxed dress standard has applied to the point when a polo shirt is acceptable at most work places. This brings us to the hat of the moment which are caps. It no longer is etiquette to remove a cap when indoors now as no one will bat an eyelid. However with caps there are a few style tips which apply no matter if you are wearing them to a football match or even when your dressing a bit more formally. Here are some style tips on how to wear caps or promotional caps.

Tip Number 1: Not all caps are the same. The shape of the cap makes a difference and can make you look either stylish or a complete douchebag. Most caps differ in the peak. Most caps have a curved peak and here are the most common peaks you will find:

- Traditional curved peak - the most popular and suitable for football games as well as tradeshow and work environments

- Flat peak caps - very modern but not appropriate for many head shapes. If you wear one of these you must be very very confident that it does indeed suit you.

- Suede peak caps - perfect for golf functions or when you want to jazz up the humble cap to something a little more upmarket.

Tip Number 2: Get the cap that fits. You would want to wear a cap with no empty gaps inside. If there are gaps it simply means the cap does not fit you and you should either get one your size or swap styles altogether. The most obvious reason why is that the gaps make your head look big and changes your face shape significantly for the worse.

Tip Number 3: Colour. Choosing the right colour cap can enable you to wear caps with more formal clothing. The easiest would be to match them to the colour of your trousers or skirt. So a grey cap goes with a grey bottom or a white cap goes with a white bottom half. You may match caps with your shirt or polo shirt if you want to achieve a uniform look (which is perfect for a uniform workwear)

Tip Number 4: The most important point is comfort. This is the main reason why people may or may not wear a cap. Cheap promotional caps are low in cost and look the same as any other cap but they skimp on materials which make your head breathe. More expensive caps tend to use more natural fibers or polyester weaves that breathe a lot easier.

Tip Number 5: Basic clothing colour principals apply. Light coloured caps are more obvious visually and will make your head appear larger. Darker coloured caps are less obvious visually and will make your head smaller.

Lastly caps can go with a suit for both men and women. It really depends on the occassion and how the person wears it. For some it is a match made in heaven. For others it is a fashion disaster. Only the wearer him or herself can really be the judge, with that said confidence is everything. If you like what you see with your cap on and are confident then that is all that matters. If not then go take that cap off right now!
