Our sales office in Sydney will be away on labour holiday tomorrow. So unfortunately for any queries that may come through these will all be answered when we return on Tuesday. The 3rd of October will be a holiday for NSW, SA, & ACT. So for this regular holiday, I went off and did some research on why tomorrow is a holiday in Sydney and why it is called the Labour day. I will also give you some promotional product ideas perfect for this event, and tips on how you can distribute them effectively.

  1. Celebrate workers with promo items.
  2. Choose items relevant to the audience.
  3. Use fun distribution tactics.

What is Labour Day?

Labour day is supposed to be in recognition of our Aussie 8 hour working way of life and our working contribution to the economy. All the states have it on different days. In the past Australians worked real hard. With up to 12 hour days and 6 hour weeks. It was only up until 1850's that workers fed up with the amounto of work pushed for 8 hour days. On April 1856 a protest organised by a group called the Stone Masons at Melbourne University held a protest and marched to parliament house against the long hard working hours. They were succesful! This later spread to NSW in 1856 QLD in 1858, SA in 1873 and soon all states had in place work conditions of 8 hour das. To celebrate the victory they marchee every year on May 12th and eventually we now know this as our Labour Day holiday. These days inexplicaby (perhaps I did not research hard enough) came to move around the calendar.

So what to do on Labour Days? Well nothing! .... precisely the point! Happy Labour Day tomorrow everyone and if you are unlucky enough to not be in Sydney SA or the ACT tomorrow your time will surely come.
