We're all pretty familiar with Nutella's iconic logo branding - the red and black designs against a delicious jar filled with hazelnut chocolate spread. But for their latest campaign, Nutella's manufacturer Ferrero decided to put together something both innovative and unique. After the success of individually labelled jars across the world, it seemed only logical that their next jars were something even more memorable - and honestly, we think they might be!

Promotional Mason Jars With Unique Printed Designs

In Ferrero's home country of Italy, the company worked with advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather Italia to come up with an ingenious way to colourfully brand 7 million promotional mason jars with unique designs. Utilising an algorithm that generated completely unique patterns and colour combinations, Ferrero were able to brand each Nutella jar with a design not replicated anywhere else (along with a number to authenticate it for collectors).

The resulting jars are extremely colourful and exciting, totally eye-catching. Each pattern manages to seamlessly work with the existing Nutella logo design against extremely zany and colourful patterns or shapes. It's little wonder that all 7 million jars sold out in a matter of weeks and collectors have been scouring the internet for regular Italians selling jars on eBay.

This campaign works not just because of the unique hook of the algorithm and the vibrant colours involved, but because Nutella is an iconic brand with a logo most people around the world recognise. Because the logo is so familiar, consumers associate it closely with the product it sells - and thus the mason jar containers and external packaging colours can be adjusted. If your logo is less well known, the lack of consistent branding may not work as well. On the other hand, results like the above truly are worth the risk don't you think?
