You'd be forgiven for thinking promotional caps are all flimsy, cheap giveaway-type items. In the past, cheap caps were once a popular choice for Aussie promotions. These days, caps are slightly more expensive but the quality has gone off the charts. Given that big brands like Burberry, Valentino, and Prada are all marketing minimalist headwear this season we thought it would be a good time to check out how the current range of promotional headwear can be branded to look just as stylish as designer goods.

Get the Look for Less

Obviously there are parts of a designer product you just can't match. Prada has quality standards and on-the-books designers that are basically unparalleled, but we can still learn how to make our own logos and products look amazing based on the way these big brands approach their promotional products, such as caps and beanies.

Simple Logo Designs, Stylish Headwear Results

So what tips and tricks can we get from the big brands to make our promotional caps and custom beanies into something runaway-worthy?

  • Opt for 1 colour branding. Whether you go for a subtle charcoal-on-black look or use a bright yellow, we suggest sticking with one colour in your print or logo embroidery only to get a premium look to your (actually affordable) product. Y-2, Stone Island, Prada, and Gucci all use the simple "1 colour" rule on their beanies and hats to great effect.
  • Less is more. You might think having a huge logo on the front of your cap is the best way to generate interest, but brands like Acne Studios actually choose smaller logos to draw your eye in for a closer look. If you wish to emulate that high-end design but have lots to say, you can always pop two small logos on either side like Adidas often does.
  • Black is great, but be true to your branding. Designer caps and beanies are often a standard black colour, but it is important to note that they're not all like that. Be true to your own branding and embrace colour if it suits what you do -- particularly if you're keen to stand out in a crowd.
  • Experiment with branding methods. Embroidery might be the standard way to decorate caps, but the yellow Prada logo above is actually achieved using something called 3D-embroidery! Decoration methods like patches, laser-etched leather labels, and full-colour sublimation are just some of the exciting new methods that will make your headwear turn heads just like in a fashion show!
